Jeremy Macon (born 19 June 1987) is an Argentine professional player who plays as a small forward for Italian Serie A club Pisa and Argentina national team. His height is 6 ft 4 in (1,94 m). Previously, he represented Miami Heat, Charlotte Hornets, Gymnasium, Napoli and Empoli. Nicknamed "Basketball Messi" and "Number 10", Macon is twelve titles winner, including two-time NBA champion rings.

Since turning professional, Macon has played more than 700 games. He scored over 1200 three point shots as well as 37 hat-tricks. He played seven seasons in NBA, then relocated to Brazil playing for Gymnasium, later made his European debut with Italian club Napoli, before he signed with Empoli, and later with Pisa. His best season so far came in 2018/2019, when he won Brazilian top league's golden glove, after scoring 36 three-points shots during the season, thus setting a league record.

With USA national basketball team, Macon has 14 caps, total in friendlies, and was never played in any official games or international competitions. He intended to play for Argentina national team in 2021 and switched the nationality to do that, and finally made Albiceleste debut on November 2023, becoming their oldest debutant of all-time. He played further two matches with Argentina in 2024.

2009/2010: first professional years

Macon joined to college as a freshman in 2008, but played his first game in 2009.

2010-2017: NBA years (Heat and Hornets)

With Miami Heat, Macon twice won NBA trophy in 2012 and 2013, in both finals defeating San Antonio Spurs.

2017-2020: Gymnasium

In summer 2017, Macon signed with Brazilian top tier club Gymnasium. 2018/2019 season has become Macon's most successful of his career. He scored 12,5 points during the match by average and also scored 36 three point shots during the season to help Gymnasium won Brazilian national championship. He left team in 2020 with mutual agreement.

2020-: Europe (Napoli, Empoli and Pisa)

Macon joined to Italian Serie A club team Napoli in summer 2020 with two-year deal. In 2022, contract was extended until 2024. In 2021, he won with Napoli Italian Supercup, and in 2022, Supercontinental Trophy, before finishing as runners-up in 2023 Coppa Italia. In 2020/2021 season, Macon played 27 games, in 2021/2022 he appeared 7 times. On 11 December 2022, Macon played against Juventus, to mark his 700th professional appearance. On 15 February 2023, Napoli won best sports club of the city. This was Macon's 11th career title and he continued his winning streak, previously held titles in 2018, 2019, 2021 and 2022. On 3 April, it was announced that Macon would leave the club after the season, to automatically becoming free agent on 1 July 2023. He was out of squad musch of season, played only two games during the campaign - one Serie A and one Coppa Italia game. Hence, his last match came on 11 December 2022. Overall, as a Napoletana, Macon played 39 games, won 26 of them, made 4 assists and 3 three point shots.

On 18 September 2023, Macon signed with another Italian team Empoli for 2023/2024 season. He made team debut on 13 October, against Sampdoria from the starting five, making his competitive return after 10 months gap, but Empoli lost the game. On 21 October, he looked sharper with Bari in away game as he scored 9 points to help clinch Empoli's first season victory. On 3 November, Macon made 5 steals and set the personal record in one game. His best game came on Round 16 first leg against Verona, on April 2024, when he scored 14 points and secured victory for his team. Macon's season ended after losing 0-2 to Roma in quarterfinals.

On 30 November Macon parted ways with Empoli and joined to Pisa until end of 2024/25 season. He made his debut in Pisa on 8 December, achieving the double double (22 points, 11 rebounds). He led team to the victory and was crowned as MVP to the game. After week, he made his career 37 hat-trick.

Argentina national team

Macon played his first game for Argentina in friendly against Uruguay in Buenos Aires on 23 November 2023. He came on the pitch as a substitute in the second quarter, scored 10 points, making his career's 35 hat-trick and first international, also added 4 assists to led national team to victory 84-66. He become oldest Argentinian and South American who made international debut at 36 years and 5 months. In 2024, he played another two games with national team.

Playing style

Macon is a creative playmaker and dribbler with good vision and assists in the pitch, which earned him nicknames Number 10 and Basketball Messi. He usually wears kit with number 10, his most favourite number. Macon has only two technical fouls during his career and was never sent off from the pitch. On November 2023, he became only second Argentinian to reach 1200 three points mark, after Manu Ginobili (1495).

Personal life

Macon was born on 19 June 1987 in Cleveland, Ohio. His mom works as a beauty specialist and his dad is geography professor. Macon began to play basketball when he was seven. At the same time, he started to sing in children chorus. He later received a gold medal for academic achievements. Macon gained a bachelor degree in Law in Cleveland University. He became a professional player at 21. Macon is married with economist Raymonda Davis and they have three children: Noah (b.2009), Mary (b.2015) and Stephen (b.2018). Noah is successful basketball player in his age category.

Rivalry with Nurio Griezbel

Rivalry between Macon and German basketball player Nurio Griezbel is one of the greatest basketball rivalries of 21st century. They both won NBA Champion rings twice. Macon holds a record of titles, assists, blocks, steals, rebounds and has better ratio in triples (1,66% versus 1,61). Griezbel has played more games, scored more three point shots, hat-tricks, more games started at the starting five and holds a record captain appearances. Griezbel has longer and most successful international career: he played with Germany 133 times for 15 years, 6 of which he captained, including winning a bronze at EuroBasket 2022. Macon played 17 international games: 13 times with USA and 3 times for Argentina. They are tied in head-to-head matches 4-4 and combined 89 hat-tricks (Griezbel - 52, Macon - 37).
